How Our Senior Relocation Works
Senior moves are different from a typical move. There’s decades of accumulated belongings, emotional attachment to a home, often a tight medical or family timeline, and sometimes mobility or memory considerations. We built a seven-step process specifically for senior relocations — calmer, slower when it needs to be, and faster when family or hospital schedules require it.
Free in-home consultation
A senior-trained coordinator visits the home (or video walk-through if family is remote) to inventory every room, identify heirlooms or medical equipment that need special handling, and listen to what matters most. We bring family members into the conversation when requested. No high-pressure quotes — just a clear understanding of the work.
Binding written estimate
Within 24 hours of the consultation, we provide a binding price — not a non-binding “estimate” that surprises you on delivery day. The quote includes packing, transport, unpacking, debris removal, and any settle-in services discussed. We’ll explain every line. If we missed something, we eat the cost — not you.
Downsizing & sorting (optional)
For many senior moves, the new home is smaller — an apartment, a retirement community, or a family member’s extra suite. We offer optional downsizing assistance: room-by-room sorting with the senior (or family) into Keep / Donate / Family / Discard piles, coordinated donation pickup with reputable local charities, and white-glove handling of items going to grandchildren or other family.
Full-service packing
Our in-house crews — not subcontractors — pack everything. Dishes, china cabinets, framed photos, lamps, fragile collectibles, and medical equipment all get appropriate materials. We label boxes by room and contents so unpacking on the other end matches the new floor plan. We bring all materials: boxes, packing paper, tape, wardrobe boxes, dish-pack inserts, mattress covers.
Loaded onto our truck
A Plus operates our own trucks and our own crews — no broker handoff. Same names, same faces, same accountability from pickup to delivery. We use truck-mounted air-ride suspension and climate-controlled cargo space for long-distance moves. Inventory is tagged and tracked, with the senior or family member signing off before we depart.
Long-distance transport
Direct routing whenever possible — no warehouse layover, no mixing your shipment with strangers’. Delivery date is set in writing at booking. We keep family members updated en route. For coast-to-coast moves we typically deliver in 4–7 days; for shorter regional moves, 1–3 days.
Unpack & settle-in
On the receiving end, the same crew unpacks every box, places furniture per the floor plan, hangs framed art, makes the bed, sets up the medical equipment, and removes all packing debris. Settle-in services include hooking up TVs, setting up internet, plugging in lamps, and walking the senior through their new space. The goal: a senior sleeps in their own bed, in a fully set-up home, on day one.
