The senior downsizing journey

A senior downsizing move is rarely about logistics. It’s about sorting through decades of belongings, deciding what comes, what goes to family, what gets sold, what gets donated. The emotional weight is real. Our role is to make the logistical side invisible so you can focus on the decisions.

What we coordinate

Sort assistance

Our senior coordinator helps room by room, separating what moves, what stays with family, what sells, what donates.

Estate sale partners

Vetted estate-sale companies in every region we serve. They run the sale, you receive the proceeds — no commission to us.

Donation pickups

Salvation Army, Goodwill, Vietnam Vets, Habitat ReStore — scheduled pickups for what doesn’t sell. Tax receipts handled.

The move itself

Only what’s coming with you gets packed and loaded. Same trained crew, same patient pace, same binding price.

Storage between

If the old home sells before the new home closes, climate-controlled storage covers the gap. Daily, weekly, or monthly rates.

Family communication

Adult children kept informed. Decisions documented in writing. Designated family contact gets all updates.

An 8-week downsizing timeline

  1. Week 8: Initial consultation

Walk the home with our coordinator. List what’s coming, what’s staying, what’s unknown. No pressure.

  2. Week 6: Family sort week

Adult children visit and claim items being passed down. Anything they want is set aside.

  3. Week 4: Estate sale planning

If an estate sale is happening, our partner walks through, prices items, schedules the sale date.

  4. Week 3: Donation pickups

Anything not sold or moving gets donated. We coordinate the pickups — you get the receipts.

  5. Week 2: Estate sale weekend

Estate sale runs Friday–Sunday. You don’t need to be there. Proceeds wired to you.

  6. Week 1: Pack and load

The remainder — what’s coming with you — gets packed by our crew. Move day on schedule.

Downsizing questions

Do I have to use your estate-sale partner?

No — if you already have a preferred estate-sale company, we coordinate with them. If you don’t, we recommend vetted partners in your area.

What happens to items that don’t sell?

We coordinate scheduled donation pickups. You receive tax receipts. Anything genuinely unwanted, we can also coordinate haul-away.

Can my adult children take part of the move themselves?

Yes — many families have one adult child fly in to take heirlooms. We pack and load those separately and clearly label them.

How long does a full downsizing take?

From first consult to move day, 6–8 weeks is comfortable for a 3–4 bedroom home. Faster is possible; slower if there’s no rush.

Is downsizing coordination an extra cost?

Our coordinator’s time is included in the move quote for full-pack senior services. Estate sale and donation pickups are billed by those partners.
