What’s distinctive

What’s distinctive about a New York City long-distance move

Operational realities that shape every New York City long-distance move we run. We price for them upfront so move day has no surprises.

🏢

NYC building access is the defining operational reality

NYC building access is the defining operational reality. Almost every Manhattan, Brooklyn (especially Brownstone Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Downtown Brooklyn), and Long Island City / Astoria apartment building – condo, co-op, or rental – requires a Certificate of Insurance from the carrier listing the building as an additional insured before move day. Buildings refuse to allow loading without it. We provide COI documentation at no extra charge, but it requires 48 to 72 hours lead time. Submit your building’s COI requirements at the survey appointment so we have time to prepare.

🏢

Freight elevator reservations and parking permits add

Freight elevator reservations and parking permits add layers. Most NYC residential buildings book freight elevators in 4-hour windows starting at 9 AM, and many require advance reservation. Some streets need a parking permit from the city for a moving truck; we secure these as part of your move planning. The labor of high-rise carry-out (lobby to apartment) is real – a 5th-floor walkup or a 30th-floor high-rise both add significant load-time labor compared to a suburban driveway move.

🛣️

The NYC-to-Florida corridor is the biggest single

The NYC-to-Florida corridor is the biggest single outbound route we run from anywhere in the country. NYC to Tampa, Orlando, the Treasure Coast, Naples, and the entire South Florida region (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton) all see consistent outbound from the five boroughs. Standard delivery window is 5 to 9 business days from the agreed first available delivery date.

🏢

Cross-country from NYC to California or the

Cross-country from NYC to California or the Pacific Northwest runs 10 to 14 business days. NYC-to-LA, NYC-to-Bay-Area, and NYC-to-Seattle are well-established corridors. Pricing reflects the high-rise carry-out labor at origin, distance, and any storage-in-transit (SIT) options if your destination home isn’t ready.

FAQ

New York City-specific FAQs

Do all NYC apartment buildings require a COI?

Almost all of them do – condos, co-ops, and many rental buildings in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and parts of the Bronx and Staten Island require a Certificate of Insurance listing the building as an additional insured. We provide COIs at no charge with 48-72 hours lead time. Bring your building’s specific COI requirements to the survey appointment.

How much does it cost to move from a Manhattan 1-bedroom to Florida?

For a typical 1-bedroom Manhattan apartment to South Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Naples), customers commonly see binding estimates in the $3,500 to $6,500 range. To Tampa or Orlando, $3,000 to $6,000. To NYC-area cross-country destinations (LA, Bay Area, Seattle), $5,000 to $9,500. These ranges include the labor for high-rise carry-out.

How long does it take to move from NYC to California?

Cross-country moves from NYC to LA, Bay Area, San Diego, or Seattle run 10 to 14 business days from the agreed first available delivery date. Consolidation windows are wider on cross-country corridors than regional routes – your move coordinator confirms the window 24-48 hours before delivery.

Can A Plus Moving handle 5th-floor walkup or 30th-floor high-rise loading?

Yes – both are common NYC moves. Walkup loads are billed with per-flight long-carry surcharge above the included one flight, and they take longer (a 5th-floor walkup 2-bedroom can run 8-12 hours load time). High-rise loads with reserved freight elevators run on a 4-hour reservation window per building rules. We rotate crews on long carries to maintain pace.

What’s the cheapest month to move out of NYC?

Late September through February is the lowest-demand window. Peak season is May through August (the school-year-end family relocation surge). Moving in October, November, January, or February can save 10-20% on the same long-distance NYC move compared to peak summer.
