What makes a New York long-distance move different
Operational realities that shape every New York long-distance move we run. We price for them upfront so move day has no surprises.
NYC moves are not the same as the rest of the state
NYC moves are not the same as the rest of the state. Moving out of a Manhattan or Brooklyn high-rise typically requires a Certificate of Insurance (COI) from the carrier listing the specific building as an additional insured – buildings refuse to allow loading without it. We issue COI documentation at no extra charge, but it has to be submitted 48 to 72 hours before move day to make the building’s deadline. Same with elevator reservations, which most buildings book in 4-hour windows starting at 9 AM.
Outside the city
Outside the city, New York moves more closely resemble other Northeast moves – driveway loading, no COI usually needed, fewer building restrictions. Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and the Hudson Valley are all driveway moves on standard suburban streets. The cost difference between an NYC apartment move and an upstate New York move can be significant for the same shipment weight, mostly due to the labor-intensive carry-out from a city walkup or high-rise versus a single-flight house.
The NYC-to-Florida migration is the biggest single
The NYC-to-Florida migration is the biggest single corridor we run from New York – Tampa, Orlando, the Treasure Coast, Naples, and the entire Florida east coast all see consistent inbound from NYC. Delivery windows on these corridors are 5 to 9 business days. Cross-country from NYC to California or the Pacific Northwest runs 10 to 14 business days.
